Occupational Health Nurses (OHNs) are responsible for maintaining employee medical records in compliance with OSH stand 29 CFR 1910.1020. Many OHNs are also responsible for reporting injuries and illnesses at their workplace in accordance with OSHA standard 29 CFR 1904. With electronic medical records (EMR), reporting can be streamlined to make this responsibility more management and meaningful. Electronic recordkeeping systems can also benefit employers when exposure incidents, safety incidents, and other variables can be integrated together. When collecting information electronically, reports and real time information can be collected on surveillance, prevention, and treatment activities with the OHN clinic.
